    Sexual Violence Advocacy EVE offers sexual assault services within the Mid-Michigan Area in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham counties. Sexual violence is any sexual contact or behavior that occurs without explicit consent. This can include rape or attempted rape; fondling or unwanted touching; forcing someone to perform sexual acts, such as oral sex or penetrating the perpetrators body. Sexual coercion is the act of using pressure, alcohol, drugs, or force to have sexual contact with someone against their will. FORCE DOES NOT ALWAYS MEAN PHYSICAL FORCE OR RESTRAINT. Experiencing Changes? Emotional, behavioral, or physical changes are common after a sexual assault. Taking care of yourself emotionally, physically, and mentally is important. Try to find safe places and people to surround yourself with. Remember what happened to you is not your fault. You did not deserve to be assaulted. EVE advocates provide patient advocacy throughout the Sexual Assault Nursing Examination (SANE), also known as a rape kit, at the survivor's discretion. Medical Advocacy What A Medical Advocate Can Do: Inform survivor of their rights and share what to expect during a SANE exam. Advocates are dedicated to supporting survivors in making informed decisions throughout the process. Offer resources and share options for survivors' next steps on their healing pathway. Assist with transportation needs and safety planning. Offer supportive and survivor-centered care. EVE understands the importance of providing trauma-informed care to survivors on their healing journeys. Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) Program Eve has partnered with the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Hospital in Lansing to provide medical advocacy during SANE exams. The goal of the sexual assault medical advocacy program is to provide free, coordinated, timely, comprehensive, and compassionate care to pediatric and adult survivors of sexual assault from 9am-5pm on weekdays. If in need of an exam, survivors can call EVE's crisis line at (517) 372-5572 or go to the UM Health-Sparrow Emergency Department and the nurse at the desk will page the appropriate nurse on call. If you have any other questions please call (517) 364-3931. Nurses Who Care Forensic Nurse Examiners are trained to provide comprehensive trauma-informed care. We are fortunate here in Lansing to have Forensic Nurse Examiners on staff at UM Health-Sparrow Hospital to give survivors the option of an exam after an assault. Coordinated Advocacy Forensic Nurse Examiners work collaboratively with police, prosecutors, child protective services, and community advocacy services to provide the best and most appropriate care. Empowered Strength-Based Approach EVE and UM Health-Sparrow have partnered together to provide an empowerment-based approach for survivors. The survivor decides how they would like to proceed each and every step of the way.
